HEXAGRAM 12 OF 64 HEAVEN OVER EARTH
STANDSTILL
stagnation, standstill, bad people in charge, withdrawal, waiting it out
THE JUDGMENT
Bad people block the way; the superior man's firmness does not profit. The great departs and the small arrives.
THE LINES, BOTTOM TO TOP
- Line 1 Pull up one grass stem and others come with it; staying firm brings good fortune and success.
- Line 2 Patient and obedient; for the small man good fortune; the great man endures the standstill and has success.
- Line 3 He carries a hidden shame for what he has allowed.
- Line 4 He acts under the command of heaven; no mistake, and his companions share the blessing.
- Line 5 The standstill ends; good fortune for the great man, who fears it may still fail and binds it to the mulberry roots.
- Line 6 The standstill is overthrown; first there was obstruction, afterward there is joy.
