HEXAGRAM 47 OF 64 LAKE OVER WATER

OPPRESSION

困 Kùn

exhaustion, hemmed in, the well run dry, true words nobody believes

ROASTIE

Oppression. The Lake drained down into the Water, hemmed in, the well run dry, true words nobody believes. The book took one look at your situation and said "oh, you're tired." That's it. That's the diagnosis. You're saying real things to people who've stopped believing you, and the only one who could fix that is the one who's too tired to. Ya roasted!

THE JUDGMENT

Hemmed in and run dry. The capable one holds firm and comes through, but words spoken now are not believed.

THE LINES, BOTTOM TO TOP

  1. Line 1 Sitting on a bare stump in a dark valley; three years without being seen.
  2. Line 2 Stuck even with food and drink in hand; an honor arrives, and the only move is patience.
  3. Line 3 Leaning on thorns and brambles; comes home and finds no one there.
  4. Line 4 Help comes slowly, in a cheap carriage; embarrassing, but it ends well.
  5. Line 5 Punished from above and below; the pressure eases slowly, and sincerity carries it.
  6. Line 6 Tangled in vines on a cliff edge; every move is regretted, and the only way out is to move anyway.
