ROAST-O-SCOPE
- Scorpio season
- Waning Gibbous in Gemini
- Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune retrograde
The stars don't care about you. Roastie does, in the worst way. Pick a method, pick a dose, find your sign. The sky is computed; the contempt is freshly ground every morning.
THE METHOD
Planets, houses, aspects. Real sky, fake comfort. Shadow work, attachment styles, your mother. Fifty-minute hour, five-minute read. Lucky numbers. A stranger. A windfall. All lies, syndicated.
THE DOSE
The whole fate. He counted. One sentence. Fits in a notification. One paragraph. The reading, compressed. The whole reading. Sit down.

Your clay will go airborne.
At tonight's pottery class you'll hear 'center the clay' as 'floor it,' and your bowl lands two tables over.
With Mars, your ruler, charging through your 5th house of creativity and squaring retrograde Mercury, every instruction reaches you backwards tonight. The community-center pottery teacher will say 'gently center the clay,' you'll hear 'floor it,' and your first bowl will leave the wheel at highway speed and land in a glaze bucket two tables over. This is not the day to make anything round. Take your foot off the pedal.
DO
- Keep one foot off the pedal
- Wear the apron
- Let them finish the sentence
DON'T
- Make anything round
- Reopen the lamp argument
- Sign the splatter as art
With Saturn retrograde in your 1st house, bunking with foggy, backpedaling Neptune, expect your body to run a half-step behind your intentions today. You'll lunge for the elevator and arrive as the doors close. You'll go in for a handshake that has already become a wave. Resist the urge to take this as a personal attack by the building.
Retrograde Venus in your 7th house puts the people across from you in a reviewing mood. Somebody you've been interrupting since spring may reopen an old argument and, this time, get to finish their sentence. Be wary of winning it again. Last time it cost a lamp.

Held door will wind you.
Somebody holds a door for you from forty feet away this morning, and you sprint, arrive winded, and declare war.
Saturn's retrograde in your sign, so today's material is waiting, which you've never done. At work this morning someone holds the lobby door from forty feet away, and you sprint for it like it's a starting gun, arriving winded and hostile. By afternoon you're holding doors for them from the far end of the parking garage. Homework: let one door shut in your face, then open it slowly.
DO
- Walk at your natural speed
- Let the door close
- Say thanks without menace
DON'T
- Repay courtesy with interest
- Sprint in work shoes
- Hold doors from the parking garage
The material we're working with today is the solar system's slowest hall monitor, Saturn, retrograde in your sign and asking you to tolerate a delay. You won't. At work this morning, somebody holds the lobby door for you from roughly forty feet away, and your nervous system hears a starting gun. You sprint in work shoes, arrive winded, and say 'thanks' the way other people say 'outside, now.'
Then the old pattern surfaces. Somewhere in your family system you learned that being helped is a form of losing, and you have never once lost on purpose. So all afternoon you repay the debt with interest, holding doors for that same person from farther and farther away: the elevator, the break room, the far end of the parking garage. By the end of the day they're taking the stairs to avoid your gratitude.
Tonight, at home, you'll describe all this to somebody as 'a weird thing at work' instead of 'a war I started over a goddamn hinge.' That's avoidance, and I suspect you know it. Homework: let one door swing shut in your face, then open it yourself, slowly, like someone with nowhere to be.
DO
- Walk at your natural speed
- Let the door close
- Say thanks without menace
DON'T
- Repay courtesy with interest
- Sprint in work shoes
- Hold doors from the parking garage
Farmer will invoice every row.
You'll bulldoze straight through tonight's corn maze, beat your friends to the exit, and the farmer invoices every row.
Adventure calls tonight, and you will not take the scenic route. You hit the corn maze's first dead end in ninety seconds and keep walking, because corn was never going to stop you. Then the bill comes due: the farmer has a clipboard, the rows are numbered, and he walked your tunnel personally. Take the left turn like a human being. Lucky number: 14.
DO
- Read the map at the entrance
- Pay the farmer in cash
- Pick the husks out of your collar
DON'T
- Treat dead ends as suggestions
- Sign the man's clipboard
- Accept the land-clearing job, he's mocking you
Adventure calls tonight, and you will not take the scenic route. You enter a corn maze with friends, hit the first dead end in ninety seconds, and simply keep walking. Corn does not stop you. Corn was never going to stop you. When your friends finally find the exit, you are already there, wearing husks, eating their kettle corn.
An unexpected bill comes due. The farmer has a clipboard, the rows are numbered, and he walked your tunnel personally. Money matters come to a head beside a hay bale. Avoid signing anything held by a man in overalls. A stranger will offer you a job clearing land. Do not take it. He is fucking with you.
Romance is in the air, along with chaff and a scarecrow's hat that is somehow on your head now. A Taurus figures prominently by refusing to follow you through the hole. Compatibility: high with bulldozers. Take the left turn like a human being. Lucky number: 14, the rows you owe for. Lucky color: flattened-corn brown.
DO
- Read the map at the entrance
- Pay the farmer in cash
- Pick the husks out of your collar
DON'T
- Treat dead ends as suggestions
- Sign the man's clipboard
- Accept the land-clearing job, he's mocking you

Audit will find your hammock.
HR audits lunch breaks this afternoon and finds the supply-closet hammock where you've napped since 2023.
Venus, your ruler, is retrograde in your 6th house of the daily grind and squaring Pluto in your career house, so management looks backward at routines today, and yours has a hammock in it. Expect an HR lunch-break audit this afternoon to find the supply closet where your hour-and-forty-minute lunch has swayed since 2023. Take down the hammock. Leave the ceiling hooks as a monument.
DO
- Return from lunch on time
- Take the hammock down
- Close the window, eventually
DON'T
- Call the hammock ergonomic
- Buy anything zero-gravity
- Offer HR a turn
Venus, your ruler, is retrograde in your 6th house of the daily grind and squaring Pluto in your 10th house of career, so management spends the day looking backward at routines, and yours has a hammock in it. Expect somebody from HR to run a lunch-break audit this afternoon, and expect them to open the supply closet where your hour-and-forty-minute lunch has been swaying gently since 2023. Resist the urge to call the hammock ergonomic.
Loudmouth roommates Mars and Jupiter are camped in your 4th house of home, so the noise follows you there. A neighbor fires up a leaf blower after work, and you'll refuse to close your own window on principle, sitting in the draft like a statue nobody commissioned. You won't win. You'll outlast, which you have always considered the same thing.
The Moon in your 2nd house of money trines retrograde Venus, and the urge to soothe a bad afternoon with a purchase gets strong tonight. Be wary of anything plush, heated or described as 'zero gravity.' Take down the hammock. Leave the ceiling hooks up as a monument.
DO
- Return from lunch on time
- Take the hammock down
- Close the window, eventually
DON'T
- Call the hammock ergonomic
- Buy anything zero-gravity
- Offer HR a turn
Your phone will update itself.
Your phone finally updates itself overnight, and you spend tonight dragging every app back to where it belongs.
With Venus retrograde in your routine house, the phone update you've postponed for three hundred days installs itself overnight and moves every app. At work you do the budget by hand on a receipt rather than find the new calculator. Tonight you'll skip dinner rebuilding your old home screen from memory. Homework: leave one app where the update put it, and live with it.
DO
- Find the new calculator
- Eat dinner before swiping
- Leave one app moved
DON'T
- Do math on receipts
- Rebuild the old screen from memory
- Hiss at the new font
Today's material is your ruler, Venus, retrograde in your house of daily routine, which is the astrological version of somebody rearranging your sock drawer while you sleep. For about three hundred days you've tapped 'Remind Me Tomorrow' on your phone's software update. This morning, tomorrow arrives. The phone updates itself overnight, moves your apps and changes the clock font, and you'll stare at it the way a cat stares at a relocated food bowl.
At work, the calculator is no longer where the calculator lives. Rather than look for it, you'll do the department numbers by hand on the back of a receipt, out of principle. I'd describe this as a secure attachment to a grid of icons, and I'd describe it gently, because you look like you might bite.
Tonight you'll spend two hours dragging every app back to its old position from memory, skip dinner to do it, and call it self-care. It's grief with a swipe gesture. Homework: leave one app exactly where the update put it, and look at it every day, like an adult.
DO
- Find the new calculator
- Eat dinner before swiping
- Leave one app moved
DON'T
- Do math on receipts
- Rebuild the old screen from memory
- Hiss at the new font
You'll outwait the fire department.
The elevator stalls a foot above the lobby, and you decline the firefighter's ladder to spend the afternoon inside.
Big changes are coming at work, but not to you. The elevator stalls this morning a foot above the lobby, everyone else climbs out, and you stay, armed with a granola bar and a reasonable position. A firefighter arrives with a ladder; you ask if he could just bring the elevator down the regular way. Step down. It is one foot. Lucky color: elevator-carpet maroon.
DO
- Take the firefighter's ladder
- Step down onto solid ground
- Share the granola bar
DON'T
- Treat a stall as a residence
- Pay double for 'occupied'
- Ask him to carry the elevator down
Big changes are coming at work, but not to you, because you will not move. The elevator stalls this morning a foot above the lobby. Everyone else climbs out. You stay. You have a granola bar and a reasonable position. A Gemini figures prominently, shouting encouragement through the gap like a hostage negotiator.
Romance is in the air: a firefighter arrives with a ladder and strong forearms. You decline the ladder. You ask, politely, if he could just bring the elevator down the regular way. He cannot. He sits down in the lobby and waits with you. Compatibility: high with anyone on the clock.
Money matters come to a head when the repair guy shows up after lunch and charges double for 'occupied.' A windfall: the building gives you the afternoon off, which you spend in the elevator. Step down onto solid ground. It is one foot. You have stepped off curbs taller than this. Lucky number: 12, the inches. Lucky color: elevator-carpet maroon.
DO
- Take the firefighter's ladder
- Step down onto solid ground
- Share the granola bar
DON'T
- Treat a stall as a residence
- Pay double for 'occupied'
- Ask him to carry the elevator down

Your screenshot will boomerang tonight.
You screenshot a relative's post to mock it privately, and retrograde Mercury sends it straight back to them.
With Mars and Jupiter in your 3rd house of siblings, cousins and texting, both squared by retrograde Mercury, your ruler, the arrows point backward tonight. A relative posts something mortifying in the family chat after work, you screenshot it for a cousin with a caption that has footnotes, and it goes straight back to the relative. Mute the family chat. Put the phone in a drawer.
DO
- Mute the family chat
- Check the recipient twice
- Keep one excuse per friend
DON'T
- Caption anything after work
- Improvise a third version
- Footnote an insult
Mercury, your ruler, is retrograde in Scorpio in your 6th house of the daily grind, so anything you finish today you'll be finishing again tomorrow. Expect the email you sent with total confidence this morning to come back by lunch with three questions and a 'per my last.' Resist the urge to answer each question in a different tone of voice.
Hall-monitor Saturn, retrograde in your 11th house of friends, holds you to plans you made out loud. A friend will remember the brunch you 'definitely' committed to and the excuse you gave for skipping it, both in unfortunate detail. Be wary of improvising a third version.
The real trouble is Mars and Jupiter in your 3rd house of siblings, cousins and texting, both squared by backpedaling Mercury. After work a relative posts something mortifying in the family chat, and you'll screenshot it for a cousin with a caption so savage it has footnotes. Mercury reverses the arrow: screenshot, caption and footnotes go straight back to the relative. This is not the day to keep opinions in your thumbs. Mute the family chat and put the phone in a drawer.
DO
- Mute the family chat
- Check the recipient twice
- Keep one excuse per friend
DON'T
- Caption anything after work
- Improvise a third version

Duolingo owl will confront you.
The Duolingo owl lists every language you've abandoned this morning, and by lunch you've started Korean to escape it.
With the Moon waning in your sign, the Duolingo owl reminds you this morning that you've abandoned Italian, Portuguese and Japanese, with dates. By lunch you've started Korean, because a fresh tab feels like growth and a second date feels like a cage. Tonight you'll speed-walk past the ukulele closet. Homework: finish one lesson in one language, then sit there.
DO
- Open the Italian lesson
- Finish the old project
- Make eye contact with the owl
DON'T
- Download Korean
- Volunteer for anything new
- Learn ukulele in Japanese
The Moon is waning in your sign today, a phase for releasing what no longer serves you, which happens to be the one skill you were born with. This morning the Duolingo owl sends a notification noting that your Italian, Portuguese and Japanese have each been abandoned, and it lists the dates. You'll feel seen, then accused, then weirdly curious about Korean.
By lunch you've started Korean. This is the pattern we keep circling: whenever a commitment asks for a second date, you open a new tab and call it growth. At work this afternoon you'll volunteer for a brand-new project rather than finish the old one, and somebody on your team will say 'oh, you're doing that too?' in a tone you'll decide not to hear.
Tonight you'll walk past the closet with the ukulele, the sourdough jar and the watercolor set in it, and you'll walk faster. They aren't judging you. The owl is. Homework: finish one lesson in one language, then sit in the silence where a new hobby usually goes.
DO
- Open the Italian lesson
- Finish the old project
- Make eye contact with the owl
DON'T
- Download Korean
- Volunteer for anything new
- Learn ukulele in Japanese
You'll argue both sides tonight.
You signed both petitions over the corner oak, and tonight the HOA makes you argue each side, back to back.
Part-time night-light the Moon is in your sign, and so is trouble. You signed the petition to save the corner oak and the petition to cut it down, and the second one has a smiley face. Tonight's HOA meeting calls you to the folding table to speak for both sides, back to back. Pick one clipboard and stand behind it. Lucky number: 2, obviously.
DO
- Pick one clipboard
- Sit on one side of the room
- Leave with one neighbor
DON'T
- Sign a third petition
- Bring two sets of talking points
- Offer to also represent the tree
Part-time night-light the Moon is in your sign today, whatever that means, and so is trouble. The neighborhood is fighting over the big oak on the corner. You signed the petition to save it. You also signed the petition to cut it down. Both clipboards have your handwriting, and the second one has a smiley face. A tree surgeon figures prominently.
Tonight's HOA meeting calls you to the folding table to speak. For both sides. Back to back. A stranger in a fleece vest takes notes on you specifically. Avoid public speaking. You will not. You are persuasive the first time and more persuasive the second, and the vote ties because of you.
Romance is in the air: the cute neighbor from the save side and the cute neighbor from the cut side both want a drink after. Compatibility: high with whoever is closer to the door. Pick one clipboard and stand behind it. Lucky number: 2, obviously. Lucky color: leaf green or sawdust, depending who's asking.
DO
- Pick one clipboard
- Sit on one side of the room
- Leave with one neighbor
DON'T
- Sign a third petition
- Bring two sets of talking points
- Offer to also represent the tree

You'll delete everything except Domino's.
Your phone fills up this afternoon, and you delete everything except a 2016 voicemail from Domino's confirming your order.
With your ruler, the Moon, hiding in your 12th house and trining retrograde Venus in your house of the past, your phone declares its storage full this afternoon. You'll delete the banking app and two thousand parking-garage photos to protect a 2016 Domino's voicemail confirming your order, because the guy sounded like he meant it. Delete one thing tonight. Not that one.
DO
- Delete the parking-garage photos
- Keep the banking app
- Lock the stairwell door
DON'T
- Pay for two terabytes
- Play it for coworkers
- Call Domino's to say thanks
Your ruler, the Moon, is drifting through your 12th house of secrets and solitude while trining retrograde Venus in your 4th house of home and the past, so old attachments surface and you hide them. Expect your phone to declare its storage full this afternoon. Expect you to protect, above everything else on it, a 2016 voicemail from a Domino's confirming your order, because the guy sounded like he meant it.
With Mars and Jupiter crowding your 2nd house of money, spending will feel like loyalty. Be wary of the upgrade screen. You'll delete the banking app, two thousand photos of parking-garage signs and a meditation app you opened once, then pay for two terabytes of cloud storage to keep the guy.
Retrograde Saturn in your 10th house of career puts a supervisor's eye on your absences. Someone from work will find you in the stairwell, phone to your ear, damp around the eyes, listening to a man say 'thirty minutes or less.' They'll ask if everything's okay. Do not play it for them. Delete one thing tonight. Not that one.
DO
- Delete the parking-garage photos
- Keep the banking app
- Lock the stairwell door
DON'T
- Pay for two terabytes
- Play it for coworkers
- Call Domino's to say thanks
Your sulk will boost productivity.
You give a coworker the silent treatment all morning, and by lunch she publicly thanks you for the productive quiet.
With your ruler, the Moon, hiding in your house of isolation, you'll go cold on a coworker this morning for leaving yesterday without a goodbye. She doesn't notice; by lunch she thanks you by name for how productive and quiet the floor feels. Tonight you'll cry rehearsing her apology. Homework: say good morning to her first, and mean half of it.
DO
- Say good morning first
- Use more than one word
- Accept the wellness credit
DON'T
- Text three friends paragraphs
- Rehearse apologies she owes
- Cry at your own fanfiction
Your ruler, the Moon, is tucked into your house of isolation today, so the material we're working with is the shell. This morning you'll remember that a coworker left yesterday without saying goodbye, and you'll decide, calmly and without consulting her, to go cold. No eye contact. One-word replies. A 'per my last email' with real heat behind it.
Here's what comes up: she doesn't notice. Worse, around lunch she tells the team the floor has felt 'so productive and quiet today,' and thanks you for it by name. Your silent treatment has been reclassified as a wellness initiative. You'll text three friends about it in full paragraphs, which, for the record, is not silence.
Tonight you'll rehearse the reconciliation speech for a fight that only happened inside your own sternum, and you'll tear up at the part where she apologizes. She won't. She doesn't know there was a fight. Homework: say good morning to her first tomorrow, and mean roughly half of it.
DO
- Say good morning first
- Use more than one word
- Accept the wellness credit
DON'T
- Text three friends paragraphs
- Rehearse apologies she owes
- Cry at your own fanfiction
You'll adopt someone's macaroni art.
You'll pay twelve dollars for a stranger's free macaroni art at a moving sale, then refuse to give it back.
A neighbor holds a moving sale after work, and you only go to look. In a shoebox marked FREE you find somebody's kindergarten macaroni portrait of their mom, pay twelve dollars for it out of respect, and cry on the lawn next to a lamp. Then the seller wants it back, and you tell him it has a family now. Give the macaroni back. Lucky color: elbow-noodle beige.
DO
- Return the macaroni mom
- Accept the lamp and leave
- Walk past the FREE box
DON'T
- Pay for free things
- Cry on a stranger's lawn
- Tell him it has a family now
A neighbor is having a moving sale after work, and you will go just to look. You will not just look. In a shoebox marked FREE you find somebody else's kindergarten macaroni portrait of their mom, and you pay twelve dollars for it anyway. Out of respect. You cry on the lawn next to a lamp.
Money matters come to a head. The seller sees you crying, gets emotional too, and asks for the macaroni back. You say no. You say it has a family now. A Capricorn figures prominently, timing the standoff from the driveway. An unexpected windfall: he throws in the lamp so you will leave.
Romance is in the air, but you are busy hanging a stranger's macaroni mom over your own couch. Dried noodles fall off all night. You save every one in a Ziploc. Compatibility: high with glue guns. Give the macaroni back before he cries again. Lucky number: 12, the dollars you paid for free. Lucky color: elbow-noodle beige.
DO
- Return the macaroni mom
- Accept the lamp and leave
- Walk past the FREE box
DON'T
- Pay for free things
- Cry on a stranger's lawn

Your face will wrap Snickers.
You'll order four hundred Snickers wrappers printed with your face, and the print shop calls to ask about the back.
With Mars and Jupiter both in your 1st house, every idea about your image comes out a size too large, and today you order four hundred Snickers wrappers for Saturday's trick-or-treaters, each printed with your face. Retrograde Mercury squares Mars, so a man from the print shop calls this afternoon to ask about the back. Do not say 'profile.' Approve the proof and hang up.
DO
- Approve the proof
- Pick your good side
- Order a few plain ones
DON'T
- Call it a gift
- Ask kids for reviews
- Put your profile on back
Mars and Jupiter are both in your sign today, two spotlights fighting over one stage in your 1st house, and the Moon in your 11th house of friends sextiles Jupiter, so everybody you know will egg you on. Expect every idea about your own image to come out a size too large. Today you'll order four hundred custom Snickers wrappers for Saturday's trick-or-treaters, each one printed with your face.
Retrograde Mercury squares Mars, so be wary of the follow-up call. A man from the print shop rings this afternoon to confirm the order, pauses for a long time, and asks whether you'd like anything on the back. The answer forming in your mouth is 'my face, in profile.'
Your ruler, the Sun, sits in your 4th house of home and squares Pluto in your 7th house of partners, so the people you live with or near will decline to join the bit. Someone close will ask whether the neighborhood kids consented to receiving your face. Resist the urge to say they'll thank you later. Approve the proof. Do not, under any circumstances, add the profile.
DO
- Approve the proof
- Pick your good side
- Order a few plain ones
DON'T
- Call it a gift
- Ask kids for reviews
- Put your profile on back
Coworker will pay. You'll seethe.
A coworker pays for your lunch, and you Venmo her back with a public caption and a crown emoji.
With Jupiter inflating your sign, somebody from work pays for lunch before you reach your wallet, and you'll feel it as a coup. By afternoon you've Venmoed her back the full amount plus tip, with a public caption and a crown emoji, and you're refreshing for likes. Homework: next time someone buys you lunch, say 'thank you' and nothing else.
DO
- Say thank you, period
- Let her be generous
- Keep the Venmo private
DON'T
- Tip on a repayment
- Sign anything in gold pen
- Crown-emoji your own refund
Today's material is the solar system's biggest tipper, Jupiter, parked in your sign and making generosity feel less like a value and more like a stage. At lunch, somebody from work pays for the table before your hand reaches your wallet. It's forty dollars at a Thai place. You'll experience it as a coup.
What comes up this afternoon is control in a kindness costume: when you pay, you're the hero, and when they pay, you're the audience, and you have never once tolerated being the audience. So you Venmo her back the full amount plus tip, with a public caption and a crown emoji, then refresh for likes like a golden retriever watching the driveway.
Tonight you'll draft a short speech for tomorrow about what this team means to you, and order the whole floor pizza with a card signed in gold pen. That isn't gratitude. That's a rebuttal. Homework: the next time someone buys you lunch, say 'thank you' and stop talking. Keep stopping. It will feel like losing an award; it's called receiving.
DO
- Say thank you, period
- Let her be generous
- Keep the Venmo private
DON'T
- Tip on a repayment
- Sign anything in gold pen
- Crown-emoji your own refund
Clerk will laminate your blink.
You bring a ring light to the DMV, demand retakes, and the clerk laminates your mid-blink photo until 2034.
A government official will see you as you truly are this afternoon, and unfortunately it's the DMV. You arrive with a ring light and a friend whose only job is saying 'yes, that one,' then request retakes until the line reaches the parking lot. The clerk snaps you mid-blink and laminates it with real joy. Smile when she says smile. Lucky number: 8.
DO
- Smile when she says smile
- Leave the ring light in the car
- Apologize to the line
DON'T
- Request a second retake
- Bring a hype friend to the DMV
- Ask the clerk if she does headshots
A government official will see you as you truly are this afternoon. Unfortunately it's the DMV. You arrive to renew your license with a ring light, a bronzer brush and a friend whose only job is to say 'yes, that one.' The clerk has been here nineteen years. The clerk has seen ring lights before. Compatibility: low with institutions.
You request a retake. Then a second retake, from your good side, which you insist is all of them. The line behind you reaches the parking lot. A stranger will recognize you at the grocery store tonight as the reason she lost her whole afternoon. Fame, at last.
Your patience runs out. So does the clerk's. She snaps the final photo mid-blink, mouth open, during your 'one more thing,' and laminates it with real joy. Romance suffers: every bartender who cards you until 2034 gets a laugh. Smile when she says smile. Lucky number: 8, the years you carry it. Lucky color: DMV-backdrop gray-blue.
DO
- Smile when she says smile
- Leave the ring light in the car
- Apologize to the line
DON'T
- Request a second retake
- Bring a hype friend to the DMV
- Ask the clerk if she does headshots

Your ladder will return cleaner.
You lend a neighbor your ladder with a laminated care sheet, and it returns cleaner than you've ever kept it.
With your ruler, Mercury, retrograde in your 3rd house of neighbors and square Mars and Jupiter in your 12th, what you lend comes back changed. You hand a neighbor your ladder with a laminated care sheet this morning, and by evening it returns oiled, folded tighter than you've ever managed, with a thank-you note in nicer handwriting than yours. Write a thank-you note back. Lose.
DO
- Lend the ladder anyway
- Accept the thank-you note
- Sleep despite the hinges
DON'T
- Laminate anything today
- Buy a second ladder
- Grade the neighbor's handwriting
Your ruler, Mercury, is retrograde in Scorpio in your 3rd house of neighbors and errands, square Mars and Jupiter in your 12th house of private torment, so whatever you lend today comes back changed. This morning a neighbor borrows your ladder, and you hand it over with a laminated two-page care sheet. By evening it returns wiped down, hinges oiled, folded tighter than you've ever managed, with a thank-you note in nicer handwriting than yours.
Retrograde Venus in your 2nd house of money and possessions has you reconsidering everything you own. Be wary of the urge to drive to Home Depot tonight and buy a second, better ladder, purely to prove you could have oiled the first one yourself.
Mars and Jupiter in your 12th house keep the fury hidden and make it enormous. You'll say 'oh, you didn't have to' in a voice that means 'how dare you,' then lie awake rereading your own care sheet and finding it, for the first time, a little much. This is not the day to laminate anything. Write the neighbor a thank-you note for the thank-you note, in your best handwriting, and lose.
DO
- Lend the ladder anyway
- Accept the thank-you note
- Sleep despite the hinges
DON'T
- Laminate anything today
- Buy a second ladder
- Grade the neighbor's handwriting
Free hour will undo you.
A canceled meeting hands you a free hour this morning, and you spend all of it color-coding the free hour.
With your ruler, Mercury, retrograde and canceling things, your standing meeting disappears this morning and leaves an empty hour. You'll spend it planning the empty hour: a color, a label, two reminders and a sub-task called 'unwind,' until it's over and you never sat down. Homework: leave fifteen minutes on tomorrow's calendar blank, uncolored and unnamed, and survive it.
DO
- Leave the hour blank
- Sit down once
- Let the pillow lean
DON'T
- Color-code your rest
- Schedule unwinding as a sub-task
- Search how to lie down
Your ruler, Mercury, is retrograde today, and retrogrades cancel things. This morning it cancels your standing meeting, and an hour opens up on your calendar with nothing in it. Most people would call that a gift. Your nervous system will file it as a security breach.
What comes up is the familiar fear that if nothing needs fixing, you might be the thing that needs fixing. So you'll spend the free hour planning the free hour. You'll give it a color, sage for 'restorative,' plus a label, two reminders and a sub-task called 'unwind,' and by the time it's formatted the hour is over and you never sat down.
After work you'll try to relax on the couch and get up four times to correct the angle of a throw pillow, then search whether there's a right way to lie down. There isn't. That's the part you can't stand. Homework: leave fifteen minutes on tomorrow's calendar blank, uncolored and unnamed, and survive it.
DO
- Leave the hour blank

You'll fix a museum's masterpiece.
You straighten a crooked painting at the museum this afternoon, every alarm goes off, and it was crooked on purpose.
Culture calls this afternoon, and you last eleven minutes. A painting in the modern wing hangs a quarter-inch crooked, you can feel it in your teeth, and you fix it, and every alarm in the building goes off at once. The guard explains it's crooked on purpose; it's called 'Tilt.' You explain the artist is wrong. Leave the art crooked. Lucky color: alarm-strobe red.
DO
- Keep your hands in your pockets
- Read the placard first
- Leave your own frames alone tonight
DON'T
- Touch anything in the modern wing
- Argue with the guard
- Email the artist a correction
Culture calls this afternoon. It's free museum day, and you last eleven minutes. A painting in the modern wing hangs a quarter-inch crooked. You can feel it in your teeth from across the room. You reach out and fix it, and every alarm in the building goes off at once.
A man in uniform figures prominently. The guard explains that the artist hung it crooked on purpose, that it is the point, that it is called 'Tilt.' You explain that the artist is wrong. Avoid arguing with authority. You will argue with authority. A docent takes your side and is escorted out too.
Money matters: you are banned from the gift shop, which hurts, because the postcards were filed out of order and you had plans. At home, you straighten every frame in the house until the walls look nervous. Compatibility: high with levels, the tool. Leave the art crooked. It's the point. Lucky number: one-quarter, in inches. Lucky color: alarm-strobe red.

- Keep your hands in your pockets
- Read the placard first
- Leave your own frames alone tonight

Third candle will keep peace.
You can't choose between Fig and Cedar this afternoon, so you buy both, plus a third candle to mediate.
With your ruler, Venus, retrograde in your sign and Mercury retrograde in your 2nd house of money, purchases loop back on themselves. You'll stand in a candle store this afternoon holding Fig and Cedar until the clerk offers you a stool, then buy both and a third, Unscented Linen, to keep the peace on your shelf. Light the third candle. Do not go back for a fourth.
DO
- Accept the clerk's stool
- Light the neutral one
- Answer the bangs question fast
DON'T
- Sniff a fourth jar
- Change shirts after dinner
- Let the candles vote
Fumbling, retrograde Mercury sits in your 2nd house of money while your ruler, Venus, is retrograde in your own sign, so purchases loop back on themselves today. Expect to stand in a candle store this afternoon holding Fig in one hand and Cedar in the other until the clerk offers you a stool. You'll buy both, then a third, Unscented Linen, to keep the peace between them on your shelf.
Jupiter in your 11th house of friends, sextiled by your ruler, puts your circle in an expansive, demanding mood. A friend will ask whether her new bangs work, and the true answer and the kind answer will sit on your tongue like two people stuck at one door, both saying 'no, you go.'
With Venus backing through your 1st house and retrograde Saturn auditing your 7th house of partners, how you come across is under review, mostly by you. Expect to change your shirt after dinner for no audience whatsoever. Light the third candle. Do not go back for a fourth to mediate the third.
DO
- Accept the clerk's stool
- Light the neutral one
- Answer the bangs question fast
DON'T
- Sniff a fourth jar
- Change shirts after dinner
- Let the candles vote
Third baker will break you.
Two coworkers bring treats, you eat one of each to stay neutral, and then a third one brings bagels.
With Venus retrograde in your sign, two coworkers bring treats this morning, and you eat exactly one lemon bar and one vegan muffin so nobody feels unchosen. Then someone brings bagels, and you spend the afternoon correcting the balance until you're full to the eyebrows. Homework: tell one baker, out loud, that theirs was better. The other two will live.
DO
- Pick a favorite treat
- Say it out loud
- Stop at one bagel
DON'T
- Eat to restore equilibrium
- Count words in compliments
- Weigh muffins in your palms
Your ruler, Venus, is retrograde in your own sign, so today's material is your need to be liked by every person in a room, and possibly the room. This morning two coworkers bring in baked goods on the same day, lemon bars from one and an aggressively vegan muffin from the other, and you'll take exactly one of each so neither feels chosen against.
Then a third coworker shows up with bagels. Your entire value system, which until this moment was a tidy two-pan scale, has to absorb a third pan. You'll eat a bagel, then a second lemon bar to restore equilibrium, then a second muffin to correct the correction, and by early afternoon you're sitting very still at your desk, perfectly balanced and full to the eyebrows. It's a lemon bar, not the Geneva Convention.
Tonight you'll text all three bakers compliments, counting the words in each so nobody gets shortchanged. One gets an extra exclamation point by accident, and you'll lie awake about it. Homework: tell one of them, out loud, that theirs was better. Pick. The other two will live.
DO
- Pick a favorite treat
- Say it out loud
- Stop at one bagel
DON'T
- Eat to restore equilibrium
- Count words in compliments
- Weigh muffins in your palms
Water-drinker will owe thirty-seven cents.
You split tonight's dinner check down to the breadstick, and a friend who drank water gets billed thirty-seven cents.
A celebration is in your future: tonight's dinner for eight. Somebody says 'let's just split it evenly,' and you hear an injustice, so you split the calamari by ring and the breadsticks by half. A friend who ordered only water gets a Venmo request for thirty-seven cents. The waiter stacks chairs around you. Round the check up and eat the breadstick. Lucky number: 0.37.
DO
- Split it evenly, once
- Round the check up
- Eat the whole breadstick
DON'T
- Divide the calamari by ring
- Itemize the tip by smiles
- Venmo the water-drinker for bread
A celebration is in your future: a friend's promotion dinner for eight. When the check arrives, somebody says 'let's just split it evenly,' and you hear an injustice. You take out your phone. You split it by item. You split the shared calamari by ring. Then you split the breadsticks.
Money matters come to a head. Avoid math in public. A friend who ordered only water gets a Venmo request for thirty-seven cents, captioned 'half a breadstick.' The waiter stacks chairs around you. Somebody from the far end of the table pays the whole thing in cash to make you stop. You call it unfair to him.
Romance is in the air, but the group chat is louder. Compatibility: low with seven people. You then split the tip according to how much each person smiled at the waiter. An unexpected windfall: thirty-seven cents, received, with a middle-finger emoji. Round the check up and eat the breadstick. Lucky number: 0.37. Lucky color: calculator-app gray.
DO
- Split it evenly, once
- Round the check up
- Eat the whole breadstick
DON'T
- Divide the calamari by ring
- Itemize the tip by smiles
- Venmo the water-drinker for bread

Scorpio BIRTHDAY SEASON
You'll thank only the contributors.
At this afternoon's office birthday cake, you thank everyone by name, warmly, except the two who didn't chip in.
With the Sun in your sign and retrograde Mercury there too, squaring Mars and Jupiter in your career house, the office turns its attention to you this afternoon with a birthday cake. You already cross-referenced the sign-up sheet against the Venmo requests. Asked to say a few words, you'll thank everyone by name, warmly, skipping the two who didn't chip in. Eat the cake. Name no names.
DO
- Eat the cake
- Smile with your whole mouth
- Say 'nothing' and mean it
DON'T
- Bring the Venmo printout
- Turn 'nothing' into a test
- Make eye contact while skipping
With the Sun in your sign and retrograde Mercury there too, squaring Mars and Jupiter in your 10th house of career, the office turns its attention to you, and yours has been on it for weeks. Expect the monthly birthday cake at work this afternoon to have your name on it. Expect, too, that you found the sign-up sheet in the shared drive last week, cross-referenced it against the Venmo requests, and know exactly which two people didn't chip in.
Pluto, your ruler, sits in your 4th house of home and family and squares the Sun, so somebody in the family will ask what you want this year. Resist the urge to say 'nothing' in the voice that turns it into a test. They'll take you at your word, and you'll keep score until spring.
Retrograde Venus in your 12th house of secrets makes graciousness feel like surrender. Asked to say a few words over the cake, you'll thank everyone in the room by name, slowly and warmly, skipping two, and holding eye contact with both while you do it. This is not the day for subtlety; it never is. Eat the cake. Name no names.
DO
- Eat the cake
- Smile with your whole mouth
- Say 'nothing' and mean it
DON'T
- Bring the Venmo printout
- Turn 'nothing' into a test
- Make eye contact while skipping
Birthday question will trigger lockdown.
A new coworker asks your birthday for the cake list, and you answer 'fall-ish' and investigate her.
With Mercury retrograde in your sign, a new coworker asks when your birthday is this morning, and you hear 'mother's maiden name.' You answer 'fall-ish,' then extract her hometown, her dog's name and her childhood street by lunch. Nobody sent her; there's a cake sign-up sheet. Homework: tell her the month. Not the day.
DO
- Tell her the month
- Sign the cake sheet
- Assume nobody sent her
DON'T
- Answer 'fall-ish'
- Learn her dog's name
- Delete LinkedIn like evidence
Happy birthday season. Mercury is retrograde in your sign today, so the material we're working with is disclosure, which for you is a four-letter word with ten letters. This morning a new coworker asks, in the friendliest voice available, when your birthday is. You'll hear it the way most people hear 'what's your mother's maiden name.'
What comes up is the vault. You'll answer 'fall-ish,' turn the conversation back on her, and by lunch you'll know her hometown, her dog's name, her college and the street she grew up on, while she knows you as 'the quiet one, maybe a Scorpio.' You'll spend the afternoon wondering who sent her. Nobody sent her. There's a cake sign-up sheet.
Tonight you'll check whether your birthday is visible anywhere online, find it on an old LinkedIn, and delete the account like you're shredding evidence before a raid. Homework: tell her the month. Not the day. We're not miracle workers here.
DO
- Tell her the month
- Sign the cake sheet
- Assume nobody sent her
DON'T
- Answer 'fall-ish'
- Learn her dog's name
- Delete LinkedIn like evidence
Escape-room staff will fear you.
You find the escape room's key in four minutes, pocket it, and watch your coworkers squirm from the staff booth.
It is your season, and your office books an escape room after work. You find the key in four minutes, under the fake bookshelf, and pocket it without a word. Then you slip into the staff booth with a teenager in a headset and watch the monitors, learning who cracks first and who blames the intern. Give them the key. Lucky color: night-vision green.
DO
- Hand over the key
- Leave the staff booth
- Return the kid's Takis
DON'T
- Pocket the key
- Take notes off the monitors
- Ask the teenager for the footage
It is your season, and teamwork makes the dream work, says the flyer, and you are about to disprove it. Your office books an escape room after work. You find the key in four minutes, under the fake bookshelf, and say nothing. You pocket it. You have questions about your coworkers, and this room has cameras.
A secret comes to light. You excuse yourself to the bathroom and end up in the staff booth, watching the monitors with a teenager in a headset, eating his Takis. You learn who cracks first. You learn who blames the intern. The teenager calls you 'kind of terrifying' and means it.
Romance is in the air, but you are taking notes. Money matters: the team runs out of time, and the company pays for an extra hour in a room you opened before the safety video ended. Compatibility: high with surveillance. Give them the key. They have been in there long enough. Lucky number: 4, minutes. Lucky color: night-vision green.
DO
- Hand over the key
- Leave the staff booth
- Return the kid's Takis
DON'T
- Pocket the key
- Take notes off the monitors
- Ask the teenager for the footage

Somebody will find your go-bag.
A friend borrows your car and finds your go-bag, complete with a goodbye note to whom it may concern.
With retrograde Mercury in your 12th house of secrets squaring your ruler, Jupiter, and Venus snooping through your 11th house of friends, a friend borrows your car this afternoon, opens the trunk, and finds the go-bag you've kept packed since 2023: passport, flip-flops, and a note addressed 'To Whom It May Concern' that begins 'It was a good run.' Unpack it tonight. Repack it somewhere better.
DO
- Unpack the go-bag tonight
- Hide the note better
- Nod through 'next summer'
DON'T
- Lend anyone your car
- Check flights mid-conversation
- Add a P.S. for the friend
Nosy, retrograde Venus is in your 11th house of friends and sextiles your ruler, Jupiter, while retrograde Mercury in your 12th house of secrets squares that same Jupiter, so friendship goes digging where it shouldn't. A friend borrows your car this afternoon, opens the trunk for a grocery bag, and finds the go-bag you've kept packed since 2023: passport, flip-flops, a phrasebook, and a note addressed 'To Whom It May Concern' that begins 'It was a good run.'
The Moon in your 7th house of partners makes the people closest to you sentimental and the timing worse. Someone will want to talk about 'next summer.' Be wary of the face you make while they do. It looks like a man checking flight prices.
Jupiter and Mars in your 9th house of travel and big beliefs mean you'll defend the bag as philosophy. You'll call it preparedness. You'll call it a lifestyle. Resist the urge to call it a plan. Unpack the go-bag tonight. Repack it tomorrow, somewhere better.
DO
- Unpack the go-bag tonight
- Hide the note better
- Nod through 'next summer'
DON'T
- Lend anyone your car
- Check flights mid-conversation
- Add a P.S. for the friend
Friend's sectional will frighten you.
A friend shows off her new three-year sectional, and you perch on the armrest asking if it folds for travel.
With Mercury retrograde in your house of secrets, your inside thoughts escape this afternoon when a friend shows you the sectional she just financed for three years, and you say 'wow, three years' like it's a prison sentence. Invited to sit, you perch on the armrest and ask if it comes apart for travel. Homework: sit all the way down for one full episode.
DO
- Sit all the way down
- Compliment the upholstery
- Commit to next Saturday
DON'T
- Say 'wow, three years'
- Perch like a hawk
- Ask if it folds for travel
Mercury is retrograde in your house of secrets today, so the thoughts you normally keep behind your teeth will be making a run for it, the one escape you didn't plan. This afternoon a friend shows you the sectional she just financed over thirty-six months, and you'll say 'wow, three years' in the voice of someone reading a prison sentence aloud.
What comes up is your oldest story: anything permanent is a trap, and anybody who owns furniture heavier than a backpack has stopped dreaming. She'll invite you to sit. You'll perch on the armrest like a hawk on a fence post, one foot pointed at the door, and ask whether it comes apart for travel.
Tonight, when somebody asks if you want to make plans for next weekend, you'll feel that same sectional sitting on your chest, and you'll say 'let's see how the vibe is' about a Saturday. Homework: go back, sit all the way down on that couch, and stay for one entire episode of something that ends on a cliffhanger.
DO
- Sit all the way down
- Compliment the upholstery
- Commit to next Saturday
DON'T
- Say 'wow, three years'
- Perch like a hawk
- Ask if it folds for travel
Coworkers will queue for cruelty.
You tell a costumed coworker she looks like an ambitious hotel bedspread, and by lunch four more want verdicts.
Honesty is the best policy, and you'll apply it without a permit. A woman from work tries on her Halloween costume in the break room and asks you to be honest; you tell her she looks like a hotel bedspread with ambitions. By lunch four more coworkers line up for verdicts, and HR makes you head judge of Friday's contest. Answer the next 'be honest' with 'it's fun.'
DO
- Say 'it's fun' and leave
- Compliment one cat suit
- Cancel the Belize daydream
DON'T
- Describe the bedspread out loud
- Accept the judging sash
- Call the witch a mortgage again
Honesty is the best policy, and you will apply it to everyone without a permit. A woman from work tries on her Halloween costume in the break room this morning and asks you to be honest. You are honest. You tell her she looks like a hotel bedspread with ambitions.
A crowd gathers. By lunch, four more coworkers line up in costume for your verdict, because cruelty is a service now. The pirate is 'a guy who lost a bet.' The witch is 'a mortgage.' Someone from accounting cries in a cat suit. A Leo figures prominently, demanding a second opinion and not getting it.
Money matters come to a head when HR names you head judge of Friday's costume contest, unpaid. Your lifelong nemesis Commitment arrives with a clipboard and a sash. You had planned to be in Belize by Friday. You are not going to Belize. Answer the next 'be honest' with 'it's fun.' Lucky number: 1, as in stars. Lucky color: hotel-bedspread paisley.
DO
- Say 'it's fun' and leave
- Compliment one cat suit
- Cancel the Belize daydream
DON'T
- Describe the bedspread out loud
- Accept the judging sash
- Call the witch a mortgage again

Your fern will fear you.
You put your browning fern on a thirty-day performance plan this morning, and by tonight it's thriving out of fear.
Saturn, your ruler, is retrograde in your 4th house of home, so the management style you use at work turns on your living room this morning. The browning fern by the window gets a typed, thirty-day performance improvement plan with milestones, and by tonight it's standing straighter than anyone in your department, out of fear. Water the fern. Stop maintaining eye contact with it.
DO
- Water the fern
- Stretch without a deliverable
- Split the check evenly
DON'T
- Schedule the fern's review
- Itemize the guacamole
- Make the fern sign it
Saturn, your ruler, is retrograde in Aries in your 4th house of home, which turns the management style you use at work inward on your own living room. Expect the fern by the window, the one browning at the tips, to get a typed thirty-day performance improvement plan this morning, with milestones. By tonight it will be standing up straighter than anyone in your department, out of fear.
The Moon in your 6th house of the daily grind and retrograde Venus in your 10th house of career soften the office in ways you'll find suspicious. Be wary of anything called Wellness Thursday. When somebody from HR leads chair stretches after lunch, you'll take notes, and you'll ask what the deliverable is.
Mars and Jupiter in your 8th house of shared money make every split check a negotiation. A friend will suggest you just split it evenly tonight, and you'll counter with an itemized breakdown down to the guacamole. Water the fern. Stop maintaining eye contact with it.
DO
- Water the fern
- Stretch without a deliverable
- Split the check evenly
DON'T
- Schedule the fern's review
- Itemize the guacamole
- Make the fern sign it
Your knitting will incorporate tonight.
A coworker says you could sell your knitting, and by tonight it has a logo, a five-year plan and an LLC.
With Saturn retrograde in your family house, somebody at work says 'you could sell these' about your hand-knit scarf this morning, and you hear a market. By afternoon it has per-scarf pricing, a logo and a five-year plan, because to you an unmonetized hobby is just a loose end. Homework: knit one scarf and give it to the neighbor free, no invoice, no QR code.
DO
- Give one scarf away
- Take the compliment as-is
- Knit something unpriced
DON'T
- Price yarn per skein
- Open 'Expansion: Mittens'
- Put a QR code on wool
Your ruler and the solar system's oldest middle manager, Saturn, is retrograde in your house of home and family today, so the material we're working with is the inherited voice in your head that thinks rest is a character flaw. This morning somebody at work admires your scarf, learns you knitted it, and says 'you could sell these.' Most people hear a compliment. You'll hear a market.
By lunch you've priced it per scarf and calculated the cost of yarn down to the skein. By afternoon there's a logo, a five-year plan and a spreadsheet tab called 'Expansion: Mittens.' This is the pattern: the moment you enjoy something, you incorporate it, so you never have to just enjoy it. To you, an unmonetized hobby is a loose end.
Tonight, at home, you'll sit with the needles feeling a thing I'd clinically call pleasure, and you'll immediately draft an LLC to manage it. It's yarn. It's not a fucking Series A. Homework: knit one scarf and give it to the neighbor free, with no invoice, no QR code and no 'feedback welcome' card.
DO
- Give one scarf away
- Take the compliment as-is
- Knit something unpriced
DON'T
- Price yarn per skein
- Open 'Expansion: Mittens'
- Put a QR code on wool
Neighbor kid will fire you.
You turn the neighbor kid's wrapping-paper fundraiser into a sales operation, and by dinner he fires you for culture fit.
Opportunity knocks after work, and it is nine years old. The neighbor kid is selling wrapping paper, and instead of buying a roll you ask about his margins, draw him a sales funnel and assign him the cul-de-sac. He sells forty rolls. Then, before dinner, he lets you go, citing culture fit and chewing grape gum. Buy one roll and shut the door.
DO
- Buy one roll of wrapping paper
- Shut the door
- Accept the termination gracefully
DON'T
- Ask a fourth-grader about margins
- Promise a child equity
- Request an exit interview
Opportunity knocks after work, and it is nine years old. Money matters come to a head on your own welcome mat. The neighbor kid is selling wrapping paper for his school fundraiser. You do not buy wrapping paper. You ask for his margins. You ask about his territory. By the second question he has stopped blinking.
A business partnership forms. You draw him a sales funnel on the back of the order form, assign him the cul-de-sac, and promise equity. He sells forty rolls. A Virgo figures prominently, buying three to get you both off her porch. Avoid signing contracts with minors. You will anyway, in crayon.
Before dinner, a shock: he lets you go. He cites culture fit, chewing grape gum the whole time. An unexpected windfall: he pays you in Fruit Roll-Ups, which you declare as income. Compatibility: low with your own employees. Buy one roll and shut the door. Lucky number: 40, the rolls he sold without you. Lucky color: candy-cane stripe.
DO
- Buy one roll of wrapping paper
- Shut the door
- Accept the termination gracefully
DON'T
- Ask a fourth-grader about margins
- Promise a child equity
- Request an exit interview

Monopoly will become a commune.
You abolish private property during tonight's Monopoly game, everybody leaves, and you call the commune a successful pilot.
Your ruler, Uranus, is retrograde in your 5th house of fun and trining Pluto in your sign, so the revolution starts at game night. After work you'll propose a house rule abolishing private property somewhere around the second lap of Monopoly, and the board is a commune before anyone reaches Boardwalk. Everybody leaves; you call it a pilot. Pass Go. Collect the two hundred. Keep it.
DO
- Concede the documentary point
- Play by the box rules
- Keep the two hundred
DON'T
- Draft anything on napkins
- Nationalize the railroads
- Unionize the thimble
Mars and Jupiter crowd your 7th house of partners, so the people across the table get bigger and louder today. Expect someone at lunch to disagree with you about a documentary you're certain they haven't seen, and expect them to have seen it twice, with notes.
Pluto and the North Node both sit in your 1st house, which makes you feel destined, and Neptune sextiles Pluto, which makes you feel right. Be wary of the combination. It's how every insufferable manifesto gets started: on a napkin, with no editor.

After work you'll sit down to Monopoly, propose a house rule abolishing private property somewhere around the second lap, and turn the board into a commune before anyone reaches Boardwalk. Everybody will leave. You'll call it a successful pilot. Pass Go. Collect the two hundred. Keep it.

Someone will call you normal.
A coworker calls you refreshingly normal, and you spend lunch eating soup with chopsticks to prove her wrong.
With Pluto in your sign working on your identity, somebody at work calls you 'so refreshingly normal' this morning, and you hear slander. At lunch you eat soup with chopsticks in the break room and bring up a lichen documentary, unprompted. Homework: let one person think you're normal until Friday, and don't correct them, not even with a hat.
DO
- Say thanks and mean it
- Use a spoon
- Stay normal until Friday
DON'T
- Quote a Bulgarian poet
- Mention the lichen documentary
- Correct her with a hat
The demoted planet that never shut up about it, Pluto, is in your sign today, so the material is identity, and specifically your terror of having a normal one. This morning somebody from work tells you, warmly, that you're 'so refreshingly normal.' She means it as a compliment. You'll receive it as slander.
What comes up is the old split between being loved and being interesting, and you have always picked interesting. So at lunch you'll eat soup with chopsticks in the break room, audibly, and bring up a documentary about lichen nobody asked about. By afternoon your Slack status is a quote from a Bulgarian poet you discovered eight minutes earlier.
Tonight you'll post a contrarian take about sunsets being overrated, and four people will like it, which is extremely normal engagement. That's the part that keeps you up. Homework: let one person go on thinking you're normal until Friday, and don't correct the record, not even with a hat.
DO
- Say thanks and mean it
- Use a spoon
- Stay normal until Friday
DON'T
- Quote a Bulgarian poet
- Mention the lichen documentary
- Correct her with a hat
You'll report the neighbor's drone.
You file a forty-page UFO report about lights over the Walmart, and the neighbor replies asking for drone footage credit.
The truth is out there, about forty feet above the Walmart. After work you film three blinking lights over the parking lot and whisper 'they've chosen me' to a man loading paper towels into a Kia. Tonight you file a forty-page sighting report, footnoted. The neighbor replies: his drone, and he'd like the footage credited. Accept that it was a drone. Lucky color: low-battery red.
DO
- Accept that it was a drone
- Credit the neighbor's footage
- Apologize to the Kia guy
DON'T
- Footnote a sighting report
- Call the neighbor a cover-up
- Ask the drone where it's from
A sign appears in the sky. The truth is out there, and it is about forty feet above the Walmart. After work you spot three blinking lights hovering in formation over the parking lot. You film it. You narrate it. You whisper 'they've chosen me' to a man loading paper towels into a Kia.
Tonight you file a forty-page sighting report with a UFO database, footnoted, with a timeline. A stranger will reply. The stranger is next door's one-man air force. It was his drone, and he would like his footage credited. You buy a telescope on your phone before he finishes typing. Avoid sending the database anything else. The database has blocked you.
Friendships are tested when you explain to the group chat, at length, that the neighbor is clearly part of the cover-up. Compatibility: high with anyone who owns night-vision goggles. Accept that it was a drone. Lucky number: 3, blinking. Lucky color: low-battery red.
DO
- Accept that it was a drone
- Credit the neighbor's footage
- Apologize to the Kia guy
DON'T
- Footnote a sighting report
- Call the neighbor a cover-up
- Ask the drone where it's from

One nod will cost December.
You daydream about being a sea otter in this morning's meeting and nod yourself into running the holiday party.
With Mars and Jupiter piling extra work into your 6th house of the daily grind while retrograde Neptune, your ruler, keeps your mind somewhere warm and far away, this morning's meeting catches you imagining life as a sea otter just as somebody asks who'll run the holiday party. Your head nods on its own. Keep it perfectly still in every meeting until Monday.
DO
- Keep your head still
- Open the spreadsheet eventually
- Pick a sea-otter theme
DON'T
- Daydream during sign-ups
- Nod at anything today
- Name the otter co-chair
Mars and Jupiter are both in your 6th house of the daily grind, so extra work arrives today, while your ruler, Neptune, retrograde in your 2nd, sextiles Pluto and keeps your mind somewhere warm and far away. Expect a planning meeting this morning. Expect to be imagining life as a sea otter at the exact moment somebody asks who wants to run the holiday party, and expect your head to nod on its own.
Saturn, retrograde beside Neptune in your 2nd house of money, makes the cost of every vague yes come due. Be wary of the budget spreadsheet that lands in your inbox by lunch, titled with your name and the word 'Lead.' You'll open it the way people open a jury summons.
The Moon in your 4th house of home sends you back to the couch tonight to stare at the ceiling and wonder how the hell December happened to you in October. Resist the urge to drift any further. Keep your head perfectly still in every meeting until Monday.
DO
- Keep your head still
- Open the spreadsheet eventually
- Pick a sea-otter theme
DON'T
- Daydream during sign-ups
- Nod at anything today
- Name the otter co-chair
Telemarketer will end your session.
A warranty spam caller gets forty minutes of your feelings this afternoon, and he's the one who hangs up.
With Neptune retrograde in your money house, a spam caller rings about your car's extended warranty this afternoon, and you ask how his day is going. Forty minutes later you know his sister's problems, you've cried twice and you're weighing the warranty, and then he hangs up on you, gently. Homework: let the next unknown number go to voicemail.
DO
- Let unknown numbers ring
- Hang up first
- Keep your feelings unsold
DON'T
- Ask the scammer about his day
- Cry on a sales call
- Call back to check on him
Your ruler and the solar system's foggiest landlord, Neptune, is retrograde in your money house today, so the material we're working with is boundaries, which you have the way a jellyfish has a skeleton. This afternoon a spam caller rings about your car's extended warranty, and instead of hanging up you'll ask how his day is going. He'll hesitate. Nobody has asked him that in years.
What comes up is your oldest move: absorbing other people's weather and calling it intimacy. Forty minutes in, you know about his sister and his landlord, you've cried twice, and you're seriously weighing a warranty on a car you're not sure qualifies. Then he says he has a quota and hangs up on you, gently, like a professional ending a session that ran long.
Tonight you'll call the number back to make sure he got home okay and reach a recording saying the line is disconnected. You'll take that personally too. Homework: let the next unknown number go to voicemail, and do not leave it a voicemail back.
DO
- Let unknown numbers ring
- Hang up first
- Keep your feelings unsold
DON'T
- Ask the scammer about his day
- Cry on a sales call
- Call back to check on him
You'll haunt your own Ouija.
Tonight's Ouija board confesses a ghost's crush on a guy in flannel, and the host proves your hand did it.
The spirit world reaches out tonight through a Ouija board from Target. A ghost confesses its feelings, spelling U-R C-U-T-E toward a guy in flannel you've been staring at all night. Then the host has everyone lift their hands, one at a time, and the planchette keeps going. It's been you since the first letter. Take your fingers off the planchette. Lucky number: 2.
DO
- Take your fingers off the planchette
- Lift your hands first
- Talk to the flannel guy directly
DON'T
- Weep at H-E-L-L-O
- Spell out your phone number
- Let a ghost do your flirting
The spirit world reaches out tonight, at a friend's game night, through a Ouija board from Target. You rest two fingers on the planchette and feel a presence immediately. The board spells H-E-L-L-O. You weep. It was a very moving hello. Compatibility: high with the other side.
Romance is in the air. A ghost confesses its feelings, spelling out U-R C-U-T-E, and the planchette keeps drifting toward a guy in flannel you've been staring at all night. He figures prominently. He is concerned. The ghost then spells out your phone number, slowly, for him. Avoid eye contact with the board.
A secret comes to light when the host has everyone lift their hands, one at a time, and the planchette keeps going. It's you. It's been you since H. Everyone goes quiet except you, still nodding at the board. The other side is your right hand. Take your fingers off the planchette. Lucky number: 2, fingers, both guilty. Lucky color: Target-clearance purple.
DO
- Take your fingers off the planchette
- Lift your hands first
- Talk to the flannel guy directly
DON'T
- Weep at H-E-L-L-O
- Spell out your phone number
- Let a ghost do your flirting

HOW THE SAUSAGE IS MADE The astrology is real. The astrologer is a bean.
THE SKY IS COMPUTED, NOT VIBED. Every morning, before you are conscious, a machine runs the Swiss Ephemeris. That is the planetary engine behind most serious astrology software, built on the same orbital math astronomers use, which the astronomers would like you to stop bringing up. It fixes the Sun, the Moon, Mercury through Pluto and the Moon's North Node at 17:00 UTC, lunchtime on the East Coast, in the tropical zodiac, as seen from Earth. The positions are good to about an arcsecond. A horoscope needs about a degree. We brought a surgical laser to a pie fight.
RETROGRADES ARE MEASURED. A planet is retrograde here because its computed speed is negative today, not because someone on your feed said Mercury was "doing something." When the chips at the top say nothing is retrograde, nothing is. Astrologers find that suspicious. So do we.
THE MOON GETS THE FULL TREATMENT. Phase and percent lit, from the real angle between the Sun and the Moon. Which sign she is in, and if she changes sign today, the minute she does it. This is more attention than the Moon has ever gotten from you.
THE ASPECTS ARE THE CLASSICAL FIVE. Conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition: Ptolemy's set, the one every astrologer has used since the second century. We allow six degrees of orb, four for the sextile, which is a weak aspect and knows it. That is tighter than a birth chart, because a daily column only cares what is happening today. They are listed tightest first in the panel above, so you can check the work. You won't.
THE HOUSES ARE WHOLE-SIGN, COUNTED FROM YOUR SUN SIGN. This is the solar-chart trick, and it is how every newspaper horoscope since the 1930s has faked a birth chart for a million strangers at once. Your sign is the first house, the next sign is the second, and so on around the wheel. So when the Classical says Venus is retrograde in your seventh house, that is arithmetic: Venus is in that sign, that sign is seven signs from yours, and the seventh house is partners and enemies, a distinction your sign has never managed. Each sign also carries its element, its modality and its ruling planet, the furniture the genre has used for two thousand years, with the modern rulers. Pluto rules Scorpio. Scorpio chose that itself.
THEN THE BEAN READS IT. The sky goes to Roastie as a written report and he works from it, under the one rule a real columnist is supposed to follow and rarely does: use the sky that is there. Never invent a planet, a transit or a retrograde that isn't. He may leave things out. He may not make things up. The Classical has to be correct to the report, naming the planets, houses and aspects in play for your sign that day. The Psychological takes one planet or the Moon as the material we're working with. The Tabloid barely looks up, which is the point: it is a parody of the checkout-aisle column, and the checkout-aisle column never looked up either.
ONE FATE, FOUR SIZES. He writes the Full Beating for each sign first, then cuts the Jab, the One-Liner, Five Words and the Do / Don't from it. Switching the dose opens the same prophecy up or down. It never changes what happens to you. Nothing changes what happens to you.
WHAT IT ISN'T. A birth chart. This is a sun-sign column, same as the one in the paper: no birth time, no rising sign, no natal anything. It knows your sign and the sky and nothing else, which is still more than your family knows. Whether any of it means anything is a separate question, and the same one you should have been asking your regular horoscope. The difference is that here the math is in the open. Check it against any ephemeris you like. The positions will match. The interpretation is where we part ways with the universe.
Not advice. Not anything you can sue over. The planets are real (Swiss Ephemeris); the interpretation is a bean with a grudge. How it's built. The Classical · The Psychological · The Tabloid written Thursday, October 29, 2026.
